API 5L Gr. B Standard specification

API 5L Gr.B grade designations come from API Spec 5L Specification for Line Pipe.

API 5L Grade B steel pipe

Standard Line Pipe has grade designation A and B. Stronger grades have the designation X followed by the specified minimum yield strength of the pipe steel, measured in kilopounds per square inch (abbreviated ksi), e.g. X60 for pipe having a minimum yield strength of 60 ksi. See the table below for the standard available grades.

API 5L Gr.B covers WELDED and SEAMLESS PIPE suitable for use in conveying gas, water, and oil in both the oil and natural gas industries.

The API 5L covers seamless and welded steel line pipe. This is steel pipe for pipeline transportation systems in the petroleum and natural gas industries. API 5L is suitable for conveying gas, water, and oil.

a. For each reduction of 0.01% below the specified maximum concentration for carbon, an increase of 0.05% above the specified maximum concentration for manganese is permissible, up to a maximum of 1.65% for > grades B, but < X52; up to a maximum of 1.75% for grades >X52, but < X70; and up to a maximum of 2.00% for grade X70

b. The sum of the niobium, vanadium, and titanium concentrations shall be < 0.06%.

c. Unless otherwise agreed, 0.50% maximum for copper, 0.30% maximum for nickel, 0.30% maximum for chromium, and 0.12% maximum for molybdenum.

API 5L X60 PSL 1 grade designations come from API Spec 5L Specification for Line Pipe. Stronger grades have the designation X followed by the specified minimum yield strength of the pipe steel, measured in kilopounds per square inch (abbreviated ksi). Standard Line Pipe has grade designation A and B.
